Biography

Arthur Tress was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1940. He took photographs as a teenager in Coney Island's decaying amusement parks. He studied art at Bard College. Tress traveled through Asia and Africa, where he developed an interest in tribal rituals and mythology. He gained international fame for his Dream Collector series in the late 1960s. He currently lives and works in California. He experiments with various photographic styles, such as formalist still lifes and social documentary.
